From Sherry Thomas:
Dear Friends,
I owe much to romance: I learned English by reading tons of historical romances. (A heavy diet of tales of dashing lords and spirited lasses meant that for the longest time, I had the vocabulary of a Victorian old lady, but that's another story altogether.)
So it seemed natural that when I was a young stay-at-home mom looking for a creative outlet, I'd turn to writing historical romances myself.
I didn't know anything about writing novels when I started. Had I known ahead of time how unruly the process could be, I might have had severe second thoughts. But in this instance ignorance was truly bliss. I jumped in and never looked back.
Much as I hoped for it, there was no overnight success for me. I wrote steadily for eight years before I sold to Bantam. But since then, my debut historical romance, PRIVATE ARRANGEMENTS, the story of an estrange couple who must reunite--and passion re-ignites--when the heroine petitions for a divorce, has proved to be the little book that could. Not only did it receive 4 stars from RT, it also received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and Library Journal. In addition, it has been selected as a featured alternate for Double Book Club and Rhapsody Book Club and has sold to Russia, Germany, Spain, and France.
Needless to say, as a debut author, it is an honor and a thrill to be asked to participate on Ask the Author. I'm sincerely grateful to be here and look forward to answering any question you might have.
Sherry
