RT Rating: Category: HISTORICAL Setting: 1865 Wisconsin Publisher: Leisure Published: June 2007 |
| Edwards continues her Savage series with a lovingly crafted story of the proud Dakota. As always, she portrays the supposed "savage" as far more civilized, compassionate and kind than his white counterparts. Her message is clear, and her fans will be contented by yet another tale of the noble savage.
Summary: When the Dakota rebelled after the U.S. government reneged on its promises of food, lynching fever struck the whites in the area. Hundreds of Dakota and one white man, a doctor who helped them, were killed.
The white man's daughter, Sheleen, flees and attempts to return to her mother's people but is accidentally shot by a young brave and rescued by Chief Midnight Wolf.
Midnight Wolf decides to keep her captive until he can be sure that she's telling the truth. Sheleen feels safe with Midnight Wolf's band but fears what he will think if he discovers her secret. But that's not as much of a problem as the men tracking her, or the fact that she's made an enemy of the tribe's shaman. Peace does not come easily for the Dakota or Sheleen, but love finds a way.
