ANTIQUES FLEE MARKET
by Barbara Allan

RT Rating: ½
Category: MYSTERY
Publisher: Kensington
Published: October 2008
Type: Mystery (Amateur Sleuth, Series)

The latest from the husband-and-wife writing team of Max Allan Collins and Barbara Collins would appear to be a cozy. It has a punny title, an eccentric mother-daughter team driving each other crazy, tips for hunting in junk shops and a fluffy shih tzu. But what they've produced is a wolf in a cozy sheep's clothing. The protagonist is divorced, her child lives with her ex, her mother's bipolar with a habit of going off her meds and the dog is blind. This snappy mystery has thrills, laugh-out-loud moments and amazingly real relationships.

Summary: Brandy and her mother, Vivian, visit a flea market at the county fairgrounds to restock their antiques booth for the holidays. There they meet an English goth waif who has very recently discovered her American grandfather. When the grandfather, who happens to be an old flame of Vivian's, ends up murdered and the young woman a suspect, Brandy and Vivian get involved. As the mystery unfolds, a valuable first edition is stolen, an old friend with his own mental health issues threatens Brandy and the past comes back to haunt. (KENSINGTON, Oct., 214 pp., $22.00)
