Military Heroes

What's The Appeal?

There's just something about a man in uniform. Whether it's the pest control guy or a Navy officer in his dress blues. (Well, all right, maybe not the pest control guy.) A uniform will getcha' every time.

From mainstream to category, and Air Force to Special forces, the Military romance has come into its own. Written by women who have served in the military, such as Merline Lovelace, or who are just in love with these honorable, adventurous men, like Suzanne Brockmann, the military romance is here to stay.

Sure, the uniform is a big part of the appeal. But we are drawn to the special character of the military hero. Not only is this guy a prime example of the alpha male but also, he is very often a hero of superior intelligence. Besides the obvious appeal of the bold and frequently beautiful men of the military, what makes these heroes truly irresistible is a gentler side that eventually shows through all the brawn and courage. That softer, sensitive side; superior intelligence; and honor gives them that edge to make them true heroes.

Suzanne Brockmann has brought to life a special breed of men in the military known as the SEALS. Her award-winning Tall, Dark and Dangerous series lets us get into the hearts and souls of these very special guys. She brings these heroes to life with her strong characterization and diverse characteristics. There's no way these guys will all "look alike" to you once you start reading her series and loving her heroes.

Military heroes are strong, brave and very often rugged. They're rescuers and protectors and men on a mission—some times a secret one. Lindsay McKenna takes her readers into intriguing and exotic places with her military stories.

With strong heroes and heroines not only overcoming the odds of finding a soulmate but also meeting the challenge of a mission "almost-impossible," readers have a winner every time.

Authors' Thoughts...

Suzanne Brockmann
"SEALs work in very small teams of seven or eight men. Much of their work is covert. That means, unlike what you see in most movies, they DON'T go in with their guns blazing. In fact, they use stealth, slipping into a location unnoticed. They usually leave just as quietly, with no one knowing they've been there—at least not until the bridge or the oil well or the ammunition warehouse blows up! Most SEALs are alpha males. They're take charge types who prefer to take action. They're in top-notch physical shape. They're also usually incredibly intelligent and top scholars. Working together, SEALs bond tightly with their teammates. They trust each other with their lives‹they have to! Rather than being individual Rambo—types, they must learn to work as a team, using their knowledge of each individual's strengths and weaknesses to make their team perform at top efficiency. They rely on each other to be better as a team of seven men than they could ever be as seven individuals."

Lindsay McKenna
"The military man and woman are a breed apart. They personify the warrior archetype; the quintessential being who stands right in front of danger and does not budge an inch. A hero is someone who, although scared to death, does not dodge the bullet, run from the fray, but takes the full bore of the cannon being fired at them, and does the best he/she can in the middle of that chaos.

The military people are patriots; they put themselves on the front lines to protect our country, and to protect us. Their sacrifice is the ultimate: death on the battlefield in the name of our country. Is there any finer sacrifice? Why shouldn't they be heroes and heroines? Each deserves a medal in my opinion. We love our military people because they shine in areas we wished we did; the good news: they are our role models and we can learn from them in the most positive of ways."

MILITARY HEROES

The military hero book isn't just a novel with a guy in a uniform. There are a wide variety of plots and characters to make each and every novel a unique read—the hero and heroine as officers in direct opposition; the hero as the commanding officer or the heroine as the commanding officer; secret missions and special forces teams; test pilots and trauma specialists—they all just make you want to stand up and salute.
