Dear RT BOOKclub,
I've been reading your wonderful magazine
for many, many years and love the new format.
I'm hoping you can help with my search for
historical romances and historical fiction featuring Alexander the Great (356-323 B.C.E.). I've been able to find some historical fiction and mysteries but have come up dry with regards to romance. Any help and/or a list would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Depending on how far back you'd like to begin your search, the earliest book on Alexander the Great, Alexander Romance, is a medieval manuscript penned by a historian, who it appears has written more fiction than fact--such is the imagination stirred by Alexander.
Today, one author stands out for her work on ancient Greece and the life of Alexander the Great. Novelist Mary Renault, who also wrote an Alexander the Great biography, began her famous trilogy in the late 1960s, and those books continue to be reissued. Critics say she depicts this time period unlike any other writer.
We've started a book list for you (see right), but there are not a lot of authors who have taken on Ancient Greece and followed in Renault's footsteps.
For a more comprehensive book list--that also includes many reviews--go to: Beyond Renault: Alexander the Great in Fiction (1920 to present) at http://home.earthlink.net/~mathetria/Beyond_Renault/list.html.
