MEET THE CONTESTANTS

Marie-Claude Bourque, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Marie-Claude Bourque -- Seattle, WA
ANCIENT WHISPERS (Paranormal)

Bio: A former oceanographer and fitness professional, I am now a stay-at-home mom to my two beautiful boys. Originally from Montréal, I immigrated to the United States in my 30s, first living in Rhode Island, then recently settling in the Pacific Northwest with my husband of 10 years, a Scottish Highlander.

I was raised with French legends, told and sung by my late father, traditional stories that I now sing to my sons at bedtime. The sadness I feel over the fate of tragic lovers from these ancient legends and my interest in Celtic mythology have inspired me to use paranormal elements in my writing to reunite these doomed couples in happy-ever-after endings. Jessica Darago, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Jessica Darago -- Arlington, VA
THE SERPENT'S TOOTH (Historical)

Bio: Long Island born and raised, I now live in Virginia with boyfriend Mathew amid piles of books, yarn, beads and computer parts. I have a master's in English from George Mason University and studied at the University of London and Oxford. I fell in love with historical romance at 14, when I read my grandfather's favorite novel, M.M. Kaye's THE SHADOW OF THE MOON. (Yep, Grandpa read romance!) Now an editor in educational publishing, I get to read about history for a living. I procrastinate on my next novel by critiquing at Dreaming in Ink and WRW Circle of Trust and blogging at JustJayJ.LiveJournal.com.

Tamara Hughes , American Title Writing Competition Finalist Tamara Hughes -- Brooklyn Park, MN
ONCE UPON A MASQUERADE (Historical)

Bio: I found my happy ending living in the Twin Cities with my hunky husband and our two preteen daughters, who are embarrassed by just about everything I do. Maybe it's because I get lost driving -- anywhere -- and walk into walls that haven't moved in 12 years. Then again, I do have a habit of dancing toward my girls when I pick them up from school. (Try it. It's fun.) I like to write stories that make me laugh and heroines who are a bit like me - unsophisticated, a little quirky, and a touch on the clumsy side. (www.tamarahughes.com)

Michelle Lauren, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Michelle Lauren -- Hampton, VA
HOW TO TAME A HARPY (Urban Fantasy) - Round Three Elimination

Bio: As a child, my favorite stories were fairy tales and fantasy adventures featuring intelligent, strong heroines, something I try to convey in my writing. Over the years, I have published poetry, worked as a freelance copyeditor and done a stint as editor at an electronic and print publisher.

I have more than a hint of wanderlust and enjoy incorporating my travels into my stories. I'm currently a freelance writer and columnist for Romance Writers Report, the monthly magazine for Romance Writers of America. (www.michellelaurenbooks.com)

Barbara Longley, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Barbara Longley -- St. Paul, MN
TRUE TO THE HIGHLANDER (Time Travel) - Round Three Elimination

Bio: I've lived on a commune in the Appalachians, taught on an Indian reservation and hitchhiked all over the United States. I've married -- more than once -- and raised two amazing children. I've explored things spiritual, metaphysical, supernatural, and made my living as a waitress, a seamstress and a teacher. My path has led me through times of pain to places of joy. I've learned a little about a lot, and most of what I know is useless. Until it comes to writing romance, where all things are possible -- then all of the above transforms into ... research. Edie Ramer, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Edie Ramer -- Richfield, WI
DEAD PEOPLE (Paranormal)

Bio: My mother read fairy tales to me and my four siblings when we were young. Small wonder I love a touch of magic in books -- and in real life. My favorite people are quirky and strong-minded, so that naturally shows up in my books. Tormented characters, too. Love happy endings, but first the characters need to suffer.

I torture my characters and husband and spoil my dog and cat in my Southeastern Wisconsin home. My short stories have been in national magazines. I'm a co-creator of an inspirational website for writers, WriteAttitude.net, and I blog with Magical Musings. (www.edieramer.com)

Evonne Wareham, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Evonne Wareham -- Barry, South Wales, UK
NEVER COMING HOME (Romantic Suspense) - Round Two Elimination

Bio: I come from Barry on the coast of South Wales. For inspiration I walk by the ocean, for good-looking heroes I go to the theater, and to try out dialogue I talk to the houseplants. I will be in deep trouble when one of them finally learns to talk back. This is my second time in the contest and I am thrilled and immensely proud to have been chosen once again for an American Title final. You can visit me and the other finalists from last year's contest on www.titlemagic.blogspot.com.

Qaey Williams, American Title Writing Competition Contestant Qaey Williams -- Raleigh, NC
IN A LOVER'S SILENCE (Romantic Suspense) - Round One Elimination

Bio: Writing has always preserved my sanity (and kept my mother from killing me out of sheer frustration). Actually selling one of my own books was a fantasy I never thought would happen. Until the e-mail came telling me an e-publisher was interested in a novel I'd submitted. With two e-books on the market and a third out in December 2008, I've decided to start aiming my writing goals higher.

With the numerous jobs I've held over the years (cashier, bookseller, casino change person, bill collector and teacher, to name a few) there's no end of ideas for my stories.I currently share 'web' space, under my pen name Qwillia Rain, with fellow Loose Id, LLC author Jennifer Cole at www.freewebs.com/clubdiabloblanco.
